T-minus Six Hours until vacation…

and everything in between goes dark.  Because S. and I like to pretend we are European, what with our inability to eat dinner ever before 8:30 at night, we decided to take our ten-day vacation in August just like in Europe and, as I’ve heard, New York City.

Okay okay, we actually decided to take our longest vacation as close to the time school starts as possible so we could totally relax before the madness of the school year hits. I feel in my very bones the need for this vacation  – I’m finding myself overwhelmed by my job and struggling to strike a balance between work, friends, family and writing. I am hoping some sun, sand, wine and sleep will help restore my equilibrium, as well as my general enthusiasm for, you know, life…I’ve been feeling just a tad bit old and bitter lately.

We are, of course, going to the cabin in the woods, and I have packed several books (what books, you ask? The Mists of Avalon, which I am partway through, and which is INCREDIBLE, and Night Watch, by Sarah Waters, and The Woods, by Harlan Coben, and something else I can’t remember), movies for rainy days (what movies? Love Story, The Rainmaker, A River Runs Through It, Hitchcock’s Rebecca and Wonder Boys), directions to games S. and I say we will play and never do (cribbage and chess) and wine (Sangiovese, my latest obsession).  While there S. and I will celebrate our seventh anniversary which seems…unbelievable. I feel I have been married only for an instant – I feel I have been married forever.  So much to look forward to upon my return…our golf coach is actually going to let me and A. on a course (how far we’ve come!), my best friend, M., will be moved into her Detroit apartment with her husband (we haven’t lived in the same town in 12 years), and S. begins his last year of law school. I think this year is going to be one of the more interesting ones we’ve had in a while, what with all the possibilities laid before us upon his graduation.

There’s just going to be so much to blog about.

Take care – I’ll return in ten days!

Have fun! I’m the tiniest bit jealous, but in a constructive, supportive way, of course. Enjoy your reading and wine sipping and whatnot. And think of all of the poor folks sweating to death out here in NC. *raises hand*

    Have a wonderful vacation!

I read “Tell No One” by Harlan Coben and I literally couldn’t put it down. He’s a great plotter!

    Be well and enjoy!
